I thought perhaps we were having our legs pulled but I did a search on images.google.com All the copies agree. Totally fascinating!

Yes, the date should. Leave it to me to skip the obvious and go searching on the body of it. Haha. Ohwell.

Upon further research, it appears to be a joke. Yes the calligraphic 'A' does look like a Cyrillic "Zh" but I can't find anything else about Tomislav Matlakowski or any of the story beyond the text on that site.

The thing that made me suspicious was the author's placement of the Declaration as the central defining issue in the Ukranian presidential election.

That, and the fact I saw the original often when I worked in Congress.

Ah well, a good yarn anyway.

It reads like a joke. It's similar to the Blackstronauts in tone. However, all the photos of the Declartion seem to match the way the character is drawn and I've never seen a calligraphy A drawn that way. I did some more image searches and didn't find it drawn like that anywhere else. Do you have a sample which contains it drawn that way in some other document? I think you're right, I think it is a joke, but it's a good one.

I hate to sound rude Cargo but you should really know better than this! I think you became over excited at the prospect of this being truth and went with it. I read it and though that it was interesting but very very hard to believe as most of what the author was saying conjectural.

It was interesting, but unless it comes from a news source of some respect I make it habit not to believe what they are saying. If I'm interested enough it it, I do research on it on my own time.

Eira, I read it and thought it was a cute story and posted it. Half an hour later I did some basic googling and found that it was a hoax and said so. But I did not pull the story, instead I posted an edit saying so.

Yes, it fooled me for a half hour or so, like the Mini Cooper Robot story from awhile ago. i am credulous enough to believe things at first, but skeptical enough to pursue them and drop them if they don't pan out.

Call me jaded then (because that would be true). I find most things hard to believe in any more, since everyone just wants some attention.

Oh, here's a news article from NewsMax saying Saddam Huesein had WMDs and ties to Al Queda, I thought you might enjoy the read as much as I did.
